Basic Rules for Rummy Card Games

In order to make the most out of it is best to play the Rummy card games with two to four other players. Most of these derivates of Rummy use the standard decks of cards. Others use the tiles, so called Rummikub.

All types of these games start while the players receive the number of cards decided by the rules. Getting rid of these cards is the main purpose through the so called “melding” process. This requires the players to put their cards on the table in “sets” or “runs”.

The set means having three or more cards from the same rank. For instance, if the player has a five of spades, diamonds and hearts, he melds the current set.

The so called run is a sequence of more than three cards in the same suit and order. For example if a player has a hand of eight, nine, ten and jack of clubs he melds them

But a player is allowed usually only to use one card in a single combination at any one time when creating a melding.

So a player having in hand three sixes could use them as a set, if he has a six, seven, eight and nine of clubs he could use them as a run. The six in this example can be used for only one variety of meld.

In order for a player to take a turn the player always must follow two rules: first of all draw from the available deck or discard a pile and second, select a card which he will lay in the discard pile.

The cards in the deck will be this way used the most effective and competitive, while following the format described earlier.

The single game of Rummy is won when the player managed to dispose every single card from his hand. In order to win a tournament, the player has to win the most points or end up being the last remaining player in the game. This is generally accepted for the games with “elimination” or “target” score, as the player who managed to remain below the amount set gets to win the tournament.
