The play

The game will start when every player has seven cards in his hand, according to the rules of Rummy 500 while the remaining cards will be used as a stock pile from which the players will draw cards during the game. In order to form a discard pile at the beginning of the game a card will be drawn and placed faced up.

Each turn in the Rummy 500 game is divided into three sections
A turn of Rummy 500 is divided into three:

*Drawing – the turn of each player starts by drawing a card either from the deck or the first one from the discard pile.

Players may draw any card from the discard pile under two conditions :

  1. Players who want to pick up a card from the middle of the discard pile also have to take all the cards that were on top of the card they’ve chosen.
  2. If the player takes more than one card from the pile in only one turn, that card has to be used as a builder in a meld or to change a joker card. If the player decides to take the card on top of the pile he will be able to use it to build a meld, keep it in their hand, but under no circumstances discard it in the same turn.

Building –  this term is used when adding card onto existing melds. A player is allowed to build upon melds anytime during the game even if they have not created a meld yet. In a turn after the player drew a card he can choose to lay down cards from their hand onto an existing meld. He can use how many cards he desires in a turn to build onto the melds.

Discarding –the player has to complete the turn by discarding a card into the discarding pile but it is forbidden that he puts down the same card he drew at the beginning of the game. If the player gets more than one card, one can be put down but not the one that the player drew first in the round.

Winning and Scoring

Each game is composed from multiple rounds.

A round ends when there are no more cards remaining in the deck or when a player has no more cards left in his hand after discarding the last one.

Round score : the round score is calculated as followed: the worth of the cards that the players have in their hand is subtracted out of the sum of the cards that were melded and used as builders. These are the penalty points. Aces and Jokers are worth 15 penalty points when calculating the scores for remaining hands. At the end of a round if the value of the cards left in ones hand is higher than the value of the melds laid down, the player will obtain a negative score.

Winning the game : When a player gets the target points set in a single tournament he will win the game. If more players obtain the target points, the player who has the highest score wins the game. If you choose to play a Quick Game, the one who gets the highest score at the end of the game is the winner. This type of game is played usually from one and three rounds. In case of a multiple tournament the winner will be the one player who remains last at the table. In multiple tournaments the winner will be the one player who manages to finish the game last.

In the event of a tie :

Ring games –  players who tie will get equal sums of money.

Single Tourneys – players who failed to reach the highest score in a tie game shall be removed from the table and all players who tied will then play a tie breaker round until a winner emerges.

Multi Table Tourney
- the player who’ll have the best score from builders and melds will be the winner of the game. If a tie still occurs, the one who has the lowest card value in his hand wins.

Chip Division in Multi Table Tourney
After the scores are final, the chips are divided. The winner is the player who gets the highest target points. He will receive chips from his opponent. These are calculated after consulting each losing players scores multiplied by the point chip ratio.

For instance, if Mike wins the round and the PCR is 3. He has 100 points, player 2 has 70 points and player 3 has 60 points. Player 2 will give Mike 90 chips; 30 point difference that will be multiplied by 3. Player 3 will give Mike 120 chips.
