Traditional Rummy Rules

The Rules of Traditional Rummy

As we said earlier the purpose of this game is to be the first among the player who gets rid of all the cards in your hand. You can achieve this by using the cards you have to make sets and runs :

A set is simply three or more cards of the same rank.
OR

A run is a sequence of three or more cards, but all in the same suit and in order.

The standard Rummy game is using two decks of 52 cards.

The Game Play

At the beginning of this game you will receive ten cards. After all the players got their cards the remaining ones are used to build the stock pile which will be placed face down on the board. The discard pile is formed by a face up placed card.

First of all you have to draw a card from either one of the two piles and keep the card you chose.

After this if you already have a set or a run you may put the melds down facing upwards. Don’t meld the cards if you don’t want to. After you made your moves discard one of the cards.

It can happen that the stock pile runs out before the closure of the game. In this case reshuffle and form a new pile. That card that was last discarded will be placed back on the board face up to form the new discard pile.

If you want, add one or more cards you are holding to the meld already on the table. If there are 3’s on the table and you own the fourth, put it down and you will close the meld.

If are on the table, you can add either a or , , or

Note – In Traditional Rummy games winning can be achieved by two means: “Going Out” or “Going Rummy”.

Going Out – When the player gets rid of his cards gradually during more turns.

Going Rummy – When the player disposes all of his cards at once in only one turn.
